Why are window replacement quotes so different?

I have a 4x5 window in my kitchen that's an old vinyl model, and it's warped with a broken seal, which is causing condensation issues. Marvin quoted me a replacement price of around $5,000, Renewal by Anderson offered $3,300, and a couple of years ago, someone quoted me just $700 for the same work. Is there a reason for such a drastic increase in price over the last couple of years? Does anyone else think this is outrageous?

Honestly, Renewal by Anderson can be pretty pricey. If you want Anderson windows, consider going through a local contractor that won’t charge an arm and a leg. I ended up contacting Pella directly and managed to get 9 custom windows for under $1,500 each, and their warranty is solid. Always check out stores like Home Depot or Lowe's for installation quotes; they can often do it all for much less!

You really need to break down those quotes and compare what’s being offered. It sounds like the prices vary a lot, and that can indicate someone’s either overcharging or cutting corners. Make sure all quotes are for the same type of window and installation process—this is key! For example, the higher quote could have been for a better material like fiberglass, while the $700 one seemed a bit basic. Be careful with lowball offers!

Yeah, that's pretty crazy! I'd recommend looking for a local contractor instead of the big names. Sometimes, smaller companies can give you better rates, especially if you can find someone with good reviews in your area. Just be mindful of your HOA rules, since you're in a condo—might limit your options a bit.
