Shattered Front Door Window – How Do I Replace It?

Hi everyone! My husband and I just moved into a new construction home last November. While doing some yard work, a rock from our landscaping hit the front door and shattered one of the double-pane windows. Unfortunately, this isn't covered by our warranty and I'd rather not file a homeowners claim for such a small issue. I'm looking for advice on how to go about replacing the shattered pane. I've already contacted three local window companies, but none can handle it. Does anyone have experience with this or know where I can get it done?

Hey! It would really help if you could upload some pictures of the damage. You can use imgur.com for that. Also, are you looking to replace just the pane or is it something more complicated?

Is your door steel or fiberglass? If it’s fiberglass, there might be a door lite surrounding that can be replaced. You should try to get the door manufacturer's name from your builder; it could help a lot!

Definitely check with a glass company; they usually can replace just the glass. But if you’ve already called a few and they want you to buy a whole new door, that’s a bummer. Maybe try a couple more places?

You might want to check for an ID label, often found on the hinge. If it's there, you should be able to order the insulated glass panel directly from the manufacturer or door assembler. Just a thought!
