I'm feeling really upset because it seems like all my tulips and bulbs that I planted last fall have completely vanished! They were growing so beautifully, about 5 inches tall with thick leaves, and my daffodils and hyacinths were just starting to peek out. Now, it looks like nothing was ever there. I'm confused and heartbroken! Could it be deer or squirrels causing this? I read they might take bulbs, but can they really remove them without a trace? Or maybe it was someone stealing them?

It sounds super frustrating! Have you checked for any signs of digging, like dirt piles or tunnels? I’ve had issues with ground squirrels stealing my tulips, but they generally leave daffodils alone. You might want to look around for any signs of that.
I wouldn’t jump to thinking it’s people just yet! Squirrels are pretty clever and they usually go for tulips and crocus. I’ve started using chicken wire over my plants, covered with mulch, and it's helped keep some critters at bay. My daffodils and hyacinths are okay, but I did lose some muscari to rabbits.
I feel you on the heartbreak! Bunnies love young foliage, and they can decimate a patch quickly. And trust me, deer can be a real hassle too! Digging down might help you see if any bulbs are left.
