I'm considering taking a break from gardening this season due to some personal challenges. I'm currently caring for my 87-year-old mom and my sister, who has terminal cancer. Just when I thought I could start my seeds, I received some concerning genetic test results that might lead to me needing surgeries that restrict upper body activity. I don't want my garden to go to waste during the hot summer months, so I'm thinking about planting flowers or cover crops to keep the weeds at bay. I have about 10 4x8 beds available. Is this a good strategy? What should I plant?

Cover crops could definitely work for you! They’ll help maintain your soil and keep those pesky weeds from taking over. Plus, some will enrich the soil for future planting.
I'm really sorry to hear you're facing such challenges. You might want to try long-lasting flowers like celosia or even some drying beans, which don’t require much check-in. They’ll give your beds some color and be a bit less maintenance!
I'm really sorry to hear about everything you're going through. Gardening can be such a healing process, even in tough times. If you can't dig in the garden right now, consider enjoying gardening shows or visiting local gardens for inspiration. You're in my thoughts!

Love the idea of drying beans! I'll also look into celosia for my area. Thanks!
