I'm considering getting a battery-powered chainsaw since I already have a gas one for bigger projects. I'm torn between the DeWalt 20v 12" model, which would allow me to use my existing flex batteries for potentially longer run time, or the 16" model that uses flexvolt batteries. What do you think would be a better choice?

You could get the 12" and even convert it to a 16" later with a bar and chain kit. There's a lot of helpful videos on that if you're interested!
Check out the deal on the 16" at Home Depot! If you grab the T1 kit, you can score a free battery with your purchase. The 12" is a solid choice for quick jobs, but the value of that 16" deal is hard to beat.
I picked up the 12" on sale and it's been great for trimming trees around my place. Just keep in mind, it's not meant for bigger logs. I did find that the chain dulls pretty quickly, but swapping it out for an Oregon chain makes a world of difference!
If you've got a gas chainsaw for heftier jobs, I'd say go for the 12". It's perfect for smaller tasks like pruning and cutting down smaller trees. The 16" might be overkill unless you're tackling bigger projects, and gas will usually handle those better anyway.
