I have some cherry laurels that have really grown out of control in my yard. They're about 10 feet tall and 6 feet wide, and I'm struggling with trimming them. Every time I take a few inches off the sides, it seems like there are no leaves left on the plant. If I cut a foot off the top, the same thing happens – I end up with a bare plant. I'm unsure how to handle this situation, so any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

It’s pretty common for certain plants to react this way when heavily trimmed. For something like cherry laurels, you should wait until winter to do a more drastic trim. Doing it during the colder months gives them a better chance to regrow leaves in the spring. Just keep it light for now and give it some time!
