Should I Worry About My Sink After My Wife Cleaned It with a Knife?

So, my wife was cleaning and used a knife to scrape around the perimeter of our undermount kitchen sink where it meets the granite. I'm not sure if she went all the way around, but I'm wondering if I should be concerned about the sink falling through or if water could start leaking. Any advice would be appreciated!

Just a heads up, the sink is also secured by hooks under the countertop. Did she actually damage the seal while cleaning?

I can see one spot in the front where the bead of caulk looks pushed out, but I can't check the rest very well.

As a former granite countertop installer, I can tell you that if the sink was installed correctly, the silicone bead should be solid all around the sink flange, which is typically about an inch wide. This silicone not only seals but also helps hold the sink in place, along with some mechanical fasteners. It would take a lot of force to mess up a well-done application, so I really doubt there's any major damage.

That said, if the area looks a bit grimy afterward, it might be smart to clean it up. Scrub the area with a cleaner and stiff brush, let it dry, then wipe it with alcohol and let it dry again before reapplying a fresh bead of clear 100% silicone, preferably mold and mildew resistant. It'll keep everything looking nice and watertight for a long time!

Thank you, I'll do that!
