I've had two Hunter ceiling fans, the Apex II and Aviva II, and both have been really noisy—there's this annoying high-pitched rubbing sound that makes it tough to sleep. I always thought Hunter fans were good quality. Can anyone suggest a reliable, quiet ceiling fan that's great for a bedroom?

I usually pick up the cheaper ceiling fans from Menards. If you install them right, they tend to be super quiet!
Hunter fans range in quality; they have everything from basic budget models to high-end ones. The good ones come with heavy motors and cost more. Brands like Casablanca, BigAssFans, Fanimation, and MinkaAire are solid choices, but steer clear of the lower-end models. If you go for a Hunter, the "Hunter Original" is really quiet but pricey, needing a bit of oil every couple years. Personally, I chose BigAssFans for my place. I used to work as a ceiling fan retailer, so I've seen a lot of brands.
Yeah, those models are around $1,000 CAD, and the Hunter Original can hit over $2,000. I’d prefer something under $500.
I had similar issues with my Hunter fan, but I have to say their customer service was pretty good. They replaced my fan after troubleshooting with me, which was nice.
I've dealt with two Hunter fans and had the same noise problem, so I doubt a replacement would be any better.

I don't think we have Menards up here in Canada, though.
