How Can I Stop My Basement From Flooding?

I've been dealing with flooding in my basement bathroom, and I think it's due to the walls or floors flaking. I tried using a concrete patch that's supposed to water-seal the walls and covered the whole floor before laying vinyl tiles on top. However, with the recent rain, my bathroom has flooded again! I also found out that some base layer asbestos tiles are coming up. I'm wondering how to effectively seal the floor—should I pull up the tiles and re-seal, or would it be better to coat the bathroom floor with concrete mix, seal it, and then retile? What would you recommend as the best solution?

I’d recommend taking a step back from the concrete sealer for now. While it can help with some immediate issues, it's not a long-term fix. You want to look around the exterior of your home to see if water is flowing towards it. If it is, you'll need to adjust the landscaping so that it slopes away from the foundation and ensure your gutters are directing rainwater away properly. Fixing these external issues will help prevent flooding more effectively than just patching the inside.

Good advice! I checked my yard and found a spot where water pools. I’ve already got a list to fix the downspouts and add some dirt.
