Building a DIY Battery Backup for My Home: Is It This Easy?

I've recently acquired about 10kw of AGM batteries, and I'm considering using them to create a battery backup system for my house. I already have a manual transfer switch that handles 10 circuits and can connect to a generator. Since I'm in the USA, my power setup is 240V split phase, and I have one 240V circuit linked to the transfer switch, so I can't go with just 120V. I'm thinking I just need to get a 240V split phase inverter/charger, install a new 240V outlet, and then connect the AC input of the inverter to it, while plugging the output into my transfer switch. I've seen a range of split phase inverter/charger options like Samlex, AIMS, Sungold, MPP Solar, and Spartan Power, which seem to cover everything I need in one unit. My main question is, is it really this straightforward, or am I overlooking something?

Definitely check out the EG4 6KXP too! Generally, this setup can be pretty simple. The toughest part about solar is ensuring you're doing everything correctly to avoid any hazards. Just make sure you follow the right steps when you’re wiring everything up!

Totally agree! Plus, there are loads of YouTube videos that walk you through these setups step by step. Watching those can really help you wrap your head around the process once you get your parts.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm going to look into the EG4. It’s reassuring to know it might be simpler than I thought. I was a bit anxious because some setups I see are super complex, especially those meant for off-grid or selling to the grid. Here, electricity costs don’t fluctuate so I won’t have an incentive to regularly discharge and recharge the batteries. Since I'm using Enphase microinverters, I won't be able to utilize a hybrid inverter for any DC input from the panels, so I’m aiming for a fully independent battery solution. Just trying to keep it straightforward!

What loads are you planning to run with your backup system?

How old are those AGM batteries, by the way? A lot of times, the ones people find are nearing the end of their lifespan. I use an EG4-18KPV AIO hybrid system, but even a smaller 6KXP could suffice for backup power, as long as it can handle your load and you’re not planning on selling excess power back to the grid if you install solar.
