Need Help Cooling Down My Apartment

Hey everyone! I live in a second-story apartment right above a business, and it gets super hot in the summer. We're dealing with temperatures that soar above 100 degrees even with both of our LG 6,000 BTU portable air conditioners running at full blast. We've got casement windows and some skylights, and we already use blackout curtains and try to section off rooms to keep it cooler. To make things a bit better, we've also sealed the windows with Plexiglas to vent the AC units properly.

Besides the heat, our electricity bill skyrockets in the summer due to running these units, but since I'm a renter, I can't make major changes to the apartment. I'm looking for any tips on how to keep it cooler or any adjustments we could make to our current system. Any recommendations for alternative AC units would be really appreciated too!

It sounds like you might be dealing with some insulation issues in your apartment. Have you considered checking if there are any drafts or spots where heat can seep in? Sometimes sealing those up can make a huge difference. Also, relocating your AC units closer to the center of the apartment could help distribute the cool air more effectively.
