What Are the Most Secure Locking Options for Front Doors?

I have an electronic lock that lets us control the door from our phones, but my older neighbor wants something more secure. I'm thinking about recommending two deadbolts, but their door has a frosted glass panel, which makes it vulnerable to break-ins. They also have a sliding glass patio door to consider. I feel hesitant about deadbolts that need a key to unlock from inside, especially two of them. Would a deadbolt combined with another locking mechanism like a hotel latch be better? What are your suggestions?

If they're worried about securing the door while inside, a Flip-Lok could be a great option. It's pretty secure and easily flips into place against the door. I've seen one used like a hotel latch and it really does keep the door secure. So it might be just what they need alongside their current setup!

That's a solid idea! I've suggested hotel latches before, but maybe this Flip-Lok is even better.

The real weak point in door security is usually the door frame itself, not just the lock. A flimsy jamb can easily be kicked in. To upgrade security, consider using a steel door jamb and adding security studs on the hinges. That way, even if they have a good lock, the door remains stronger overall against force.

For higher security, consider an external metal security screen door. These are pretty tough and hard to break through. There are also options for patio doors that maximize security. If that's too much, a heavy-duty crossbar could supplement the existing locks, plus using good blinds can keep any visibility to a minimum, deterring potential thieves from even trying.
