I've developed a passion for plants this past summer and I've built quite a collection. Although I currently work as a nail tech, I'm considering opening a plant store and possibly keeping some of my nail clients. I'm really drawn to the idea of being surrounded by plants all day and having a more relaxed environment, but I know running a business comes with its own stresses. I'm looking for insights from anyone who has opened or currently runs a plant shop. Is this a good business idea or is it too risky?

I know someone who owns a plant shop, but they had to close their physical store because it wasn't financially viable—they now only operate online. It’s tough out there! Even though they have an incredible knowledge of plants and the aesthetic charm often draws people in, when it comes time to buy, many folks end up choosing cheaper options at nurseries or hardware stores. If it’s just a hobby for you, I’d definitely weigh the pros and cons before making the leap into a full-fledged business.
Starting small could be a smart move! Maybe you could set up a small plant section in your nail studio? This way, you can see if you truly enjoy it without diving in all the way. Plus, the more you learn about caring for plants, the better prepared you'll be to expand if it takes off.
You might want to check out selling plants on the app Whatnot. I buy a lot of my plants there! It could be a nice way to get started without the overhead of a physical shop. Just a suggestion!
