Is $600 a Fair Price for Installing an Outdoor Outlet?

I'm in Florida and have some work being done on my house. I requested an outdoor outlet on the front of my house, which they'll connect to an existing outlet inside my office. It's going to be a standard GFCI outlet with a cover. I initially thought the job would cost around $350 to $400. Is $600 reasonable?

You might feel it's a lot, but if they're running a line out from the panel, it does require quite a bit of work, especially if it’s a tough installation. However, you should always compare prices—getting a couple more estimates could help you feel better about the decision.

I think this price range might also depend on your location. Some areas do charge more based on the cost of living. Maybe consider checking local rates or asking your current contractor for a breakdown of the costs.

I'd say that's pretty high unless there are extra complications, like drilling through concrete or other tricky stuff. Usually, you'd want to get a few quotes. And don't forget that sometimes tradespeople have minimum call-out fees, which can add up even for a quick job.

They mentioned having to drill through concrete, but no permits or other issues are involved.

Honestly, $600 does sound a bit steep for just installing an outlet like that. If the electrician just needs to run a line through the wall, I’d expect it to be less than $400. I had a similar job done where it only cost me about $150.
