I recently had to cut part of my basement door frame to get a new washer and dryer down there, but the appliance barely fit through my current 27-inch door. I'm considering replacing the entire door frame with a larger one to avoid future hassles. I already made the initial cut, making it easier to put back together. Should I just go ahead and install a bigger door now, or would it be fine to fix it back since I can always expand it later?

Honestly, if you're doing it, you might as well go all out and make it a 36" door. If you have to add a new header or lintel anyway, it makes sense to do the bigger size while you're at it. You're right in that it’s a little extra work, but it’ll save you future trouble!
I think you should definitely go for a larger door now! If it's in the basement, a 36" door would be even better for future appliances. Just make sure about the type of frame—wood is much easier to work with than concrete block. Sounds like a solid plan to avoid future headaches!
I dealt with this issue in my own 1930s house, and expanding the door was a small hassle for a long-term benefit. You want to avoid the need to fit oversized items through a cramped space again!

That's true! Some houses were built before modern appliances existed.
