Best Affordable Wood Options for Building a Workbench

Hey everyone! I'm looking to build a workbench that can be separated into different sections. However, I'm on a tight budget, so I'm wondering what types of wood would be best for this project. Also, if you have any suggestions for online sources to buy wood, that would be super helpful! I currently don't have a truck, so I can't pick up materials myself.

For your workbench, I’d recommend using pine or beech plywood. Since it’s a workbench, it’s going to get a lot of wear and tear, so using something cost-effective is a good idea. Pine is especially budget-friendly and pretty strong!

I just made my first workbench, and I used construction lumber from Home Depot. No need to splurge on expensive wood! I went with Douglas Fir, which is durable enough. Since it's for a workbench, scratches and dents just add character, right? Plus, I don't have a truck either; I just took my compact SUV and made my cuts in the parking lot to fit the wood inside. Super easy!

That's a smart approach! I'm planning a similar project, so I'd love to hear how your bench turns out. What kind of design are you considering?
