Hey everyone! I recently inherited my grandma's house, and I've run into a bit of a challenge. There's a window in the bathtub itself—it's one of those crank-out casement windows. Right now, I've just hung a second shower curtain over it to keep the water at bay, but I really dislike it. It gets moldy quickly, takes up space, and it's just uncomfortable when it brushes against me.
I'm looking for advice on how to waterproof the wooden frame (I think it's southern pine). Is there a special stain, wax, finish, or any material I could use to make it water-resistant? Ideally, I want something that lasts a long time, so I wouldn't have to reapply more than once a year or so. Thanks in advance!

I recommend using marine urethane or a similar product. Just keep in mind that even the best finishes will need a touch-up every couple of years. But it's definitely better than that shower curtain situation!
You're right about older bathrooms! They didn't originally have showers, so now we have to deal with odd window placements. If yours is a vinyl window, you still need to protect the wooden sill around it. Consider applying a high-quality exterior wood wax or sealant to give it some water resistance. Unfortunately, replacing the window might be the ultimate fix, but this could help in the meantime!
It's not so much the window itself—it's definitely vinyl. I just need something for the wooden part around it. Is there a good wax or something that could work?

Every couple of years is better than having that creepy curtain touch me every day! Thanks for the suggestion!
