I'm just starting out in woodworking, and I'm facing a major issue! Recently, every piece I work on suddenly ends up covered in deep scratches, and I can't seem to get them out. I use sandpaper, but now it feels like something's off. Can anyone give me some advice on what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Try a technique where you color your piece with a pencil first. Use a rough grit, like 100, and sand until all the pencil marks disappear. After that, clean it with mineral spirits and let it dry before moving on to a finer grit like 120. This way, any scratches or imperfections will show clearly when your piece is wet, so you'll know where to focus your sanding. It's a great way to ensure you’re on the right track!

I hear you! I’ve been spray painting to cover it up since I’m on a time crunch. I didn’t use the mineral spirits yet. Just sanded with the grain and got some new sandpaper from Walmart. What grit do you think I should use? I don’t want any more scratches!
