How Much Are Used 20V Tools Worth?

Hey everyone! I'm curious about the general market value for used 20V tools. A friend of mine, who isn't in great health, is trying to sell a collection of these tools, with some being brand new and others well-loved. He wants to sell everything as a single lot to simplify the process. He also mentioned having some 18V tools, but I think those might not have much value. I'm thinking of suggesting he price the lot at about half the retail value of the 20V bare tools. What do you think? Is that a fair starting point?

Half of the retail price sounds reasonable for used tools in good condition. If the tools are barely used, maybe you could ask for a little more?

I'd recommend starting at half retail for individual tools. However, when selling as a lot, you might want to expect a lower average—maybe between half and a quarter of the total retail value. Some tools might not have a lot of appeal to buyers, which could bring the overall price down. Also, I've noticed there's a lot of competition in the used market where I live, which can drive prices down.

The value can really depend on condition and demand. Typically, I stick to around half retail for most used tools. For tools that aren't functional, I’d say about a quarter of retail is fair. These estimates line up with eBay prices I've seen.

That's good to know! So it seems like I was on the right track suggesting half for the usable tools. The non-functional ones being worth something is a nice surprise, though!

And don't forget, there’s often some variability based on location and the local market.

Hey, just curious—where are you located? I’m always on the lookout for good deals on tools. Not really a reseller or anything, just a hobbyist.

I'm in the Pittsburgh area. I’m not looking to profit off this either; just hoping to grab a few useful pieces while being fair to my friend. If you need something specific from the lot, we could chat!
