Hey everyone! We recently moved to Pittsburgh, and since I have four young kids, I'm hoping to plant some flowers around our house that are affordable and easy to care for. With a newborn in the mix, I'd love some quick-growing flowers that will make our yard look nice this summer. Any recommendations? Thanks a ton!

A native wildflower mix is definitely a good choice! Think about plants like Coreopsis, Solidago, or Penstemon. They’re easy to grow and really pretty! Plus, they attract butterflies, which is a hit with kids! Just be prepared for the occasional wasp—they don’t bite unless provoked!
If you want some straightforward options, look into local native plants in your area. Some great species for beginners include Anise Hyssop, Nodding Onions, Butterfly Weed, and Blazing Star. They’re all low maintenance and attract butterflies and other cool insects, which your kids will love to watch! Gathering info on local nurseries that specialize in natives might take a bit of time, but it's totally worth it!
You should definitely consider a native wildflower seed mix! They're low-cost and watching them grow can be a really fun experience for the kids. I suggest checking out American Meadows' wildflower seeds—they have some good options!

Just a heads up! I've heard that American Meadows sometimes includes non-native species in their mixes. Try checking out Prairie Moon Nursery or Ernst Seeds; they focus on local native plants and have great selections!
