Hey everyone! I recently purchased a small flat, and things have gotten a bit pricey, so I'm left with no savings for any home improvements right now. I've got a bathtub with no shower and about 12 inches of tile around it. I'm looking to install a budget-friendly shower mixer tap (check it out here: [Link to mixer tap]). My concern is that the walls might suffer from water damage, but I can't afford major renovations in the bathroom for at least six months.
I'm considering applying a paint-on waterproof membrane (see it here: [Link to waterproof membrane]) and then painting over it with standard bathroom paint. Does this sound like a reasonable approach or am I just asking for issues? If anyone has better or cheaper suggestions, I'm all ears!

Using a waterproof membrane like that for a temporary fix could definitely work, especially since you're only going for about a 6-12 month solution. Just keep in mind that when you decide to remodel, you might have to deal with that coating. You may need to remove the drywall or just cover it up with something else when you're ready to do the full renovation. Also, be cautious with how you tile over it later; not all adhesives might stick well, and it doesn’t apply as smoothly as you'd want for painting afterwards. Expect a rough finish, which could be tough to clean later on!

Thanks for the insight! I'm having trouble finding the RedGard product you're mentioning. I was leaning towards the Tapel because it says it can work on any surface and can be painted. Once I have the budget, I'm also considering tile-effect shower panels for the bathroom—do you think that could complicate the installation?
