I've been noticing a surge in knockoff batteries being sold at really low prices lately. I'm aware that they probably won't match the quality of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) batteries, but I'm curious if anyone has tried them and if they at least hold up decently?

I've disassembled some third-party packs and have been surprised at their performance. The Waitley batteries I've tested hold up well under heavy loads and their build quality seems solid. If you're looking for something cheaper, Harbor Freight has decent options too, though I'd recommend going for higher-end brands like DeWalt if you want longevity.
I've got a handful of these knockoff batteries I've been using since the pandemic, and honestly, they've been fine for me. Just make sure you buy from reputable sources like Amazon and check for good reviews on both the tools and batteries. My favorite ones were actually the Ekaco brand, which perform comparably to the originals, though I think they got discontinued last year.
Generally, I would advise caution with generic batteries. They can be serious fire hazards, so proceed at your own risk when considering them.
If you can afford a decent tool, you should really be able to afford its battery too. Otherwise, you might end up having to buy another tool if the knockoff battery fries it!
I've built my own battery pack using genuine LG cells, and it works really well. If you want a reliable option without risking your nice tools, that might be the way to go.
