I've got a pretty uneven backyard with bumps and dips that range from 3 to 4 inches. It's a bit tricky to walk on without paying attention. I'm thinking about mowing the grass really short, then spreading a thin layer of topsoil to create a flat surface and reseeding to encourage growth from what's underneath. Is this a good plan, or am I setting myself up for trouble? Any better suggestions?

I've heard some folks swear by mixing sand with topsoil! It can help with drainage and keep things even. Just make sure to check your climate, as that might affect how well it works. As for reseeding, you may need to do a bit more if you go the sand route, but the grass usually manages to push through.
Using topsoil is definitely a solid approach! Just keep adding it gradually until you’re satisfied with how level it is—patience is key because it can take time for the new soil to settle. If you want to speed things up, consider using a roller after it rains to help compact the soil better. That might give you a nicer finish.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely consider sand as an option, though I'd like to keep it simple if I can.
