Spring Gardening Tips for Zone 5B: When to Start?

Asked By Gard3nF4n99 On

I'm new to gardening and eager to spruce up my yard this spring. I've seen a lot of people planting bulbs during this time, but the weather has been really unpredictable lately. Some days it snows, other days it's rainy. So, when is actually the right time to start planting? Is it safe to start in March, April, or even May? Am I overthinking this? I'm just looking for some reassurance and good advice!

I totally get where you're coming from! Being in Zone 5B myself, I know it's a bit of a guessing game. I usually keep an eye on the 10-day weather forecast and just decide what risks I'm willing to take. I have some straw and other protective stuff ready, especially since we can still get light frosts at night.

Exactly! I regretted not planting during a sunny day recently, and now I’m stuck in a blizzard! It's hard to win when Mother Nature's throwing curveballs all the time!
