I'm currently growing a variety of veggies, herbs, and flowers at my mom's place, but I'm worried about my leggy seedlings. They're getting about 4 hours of sunlight a day in front of a window, but I know they need more to grow strong. I can't afford to buy grow lights, and my house isn't positioned to catch direct sunlight for more than that. Currently, my broadleaf sage and chia seedlings look particularly leggy. Any tips for strengthening them? Should I consider filling in more soil around their stems?

If you can safely put your seedlings outside on warmer days, that might help. Just remember to bring them back inside at night. Start by hardening them off slowly—just an hour or two outside at first, then gradually increase their time outdoors. It’ll give them a good boost without risking them to cold nighttime temps.

I wish I had the budget for grow lights! For now, I'll try putting them outside during the day on warm days. I was concerned about doing that before they established true leaves, but I guess I’ll just keep a close eye on them!
