My wife and I are closing on a house tomorrow, and we want to give our living room a fresh look by painting the wood paneling white. What's the best way to prepare the paneling for paint? We're fine with leaving the lines visible and just want to know the most effective approach to get this done.

The way to go is to use a good oil-based primer like Kilz, followed by a high-quality latex paint, like Sherwin Williams Emerald. I did this in a basement once and it turned out great!
