How Can I Tell If I’m Overwatering or Underwatering My House Plants?

I've got a couple of houseplants, and I'm worried because some of their leaves are drooping or dying. I've heard that this could either be due to overwatering or underwatering, but I'm not sure how to figure out which one it is. I usually water my plants about once a week, and I bought them from Ikea. Any advice would be super helpful!

First things first, it's important to know what type of plant you have. Different plants have different watering needs—some prefer to dry out completely between waterings, while others like to stay a bit moist. If you're unsure of the plant type, a quick search based on its leaf shape or color can help! You can also check the soil moisture to see if it feels too wet or too dry before watering again.

You could check by sticking your finger an inch into the soil. If it feels dry at that depth, it's time to water; if it's still moist, hold off for now. Look out for yellow leaves or mushy roots—those usually mean overwatering. Good luck!
