I'm planning to start a vegetable garden with my daughter this year, focusing on easy crops like cherry tomatoes and green beans. We're looking for something enjoyable that lets us reap the benefits of our efforts. However, I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to gardening. In the past, when I've tried growing tomatoes using those pellet kits from the gardening center, they've failed since my porch hardly gets any light. I think a greenhouse in our backyard could be a better solution. I know growing in the ground is ideal, but since we're renting, that's not an option for us. I've seen those small four-shelf greenhouses on Amazon—would that be a good choice? I understand I should start the seeds indoors for 4-6 weeks, but I'm curious about any other essentials I need to keep in mind. Thanks for your help!

Your backyard is a great spot for gardening! Dealing with wildlife can be a challenge, but it's all part of the fun. There are veggies that tolerate bright shade, so don't lose hope if your porch doesn't get much light. If your porch offers some protection, think about setting up grow lights; they can help your plants even if the sunlight isn't strong enough.
Using pots in your backyard sounds like a solid plan! Make sure to put up a trellis for those tomatoes, and don't forget you can also try growing cucumbers or strawberries in containers too. They do really well!
I’m a bit worried about animals getting to them once they start growing since we have a lot of wildlife around! ?

I’d love to use my backyard! The porch is just too dark. I guess I’ll stick to pots and leave them in the backyard instead of going for a greenhouse.
