How to Deal with a Backyard Grease Dumping Spot?

Hey everyone! I just moved into a new house, and I noticed that the previous owner used to dump their cooking grease in a specific spot in the backyard. I'm really worried this will attract roaches and that the grass won't grow there anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this situation? Thanks!

Unfortunately, it’s tough to fix without digging up that contaminated dirt and getting rid of it. If you just leave it, it might break down over time, but it'll take a while. You could try composting to speed things up a bit! Dig up the grease, add in some dry leaves, straw, and kitchen scraps, and mix it all together. This helps to break it down. It might take about a year or so, but it could help make the spot usable again!

Will it go away over time? Like through the water cycle or something ?

Good news: insects like ants will munch on that grease over time, which can help with the breakdown process. But keep in mind, if the spot is super close to your house, you might attract more bugs inside. It might be a good idea to tackle it before it becomes a bigger problem!

The spot is right by the back of the house—do you think it will cause an infestation inside?
