Looking for Career Advice in Carpentry in Australia

Hey everyone! I'm in grade 12 in QLD, Australia, and I've decided to pursue a career as a carpenter, specifically focusing on house construction like framing and roofing rather than furniture making. I'm curious if anyone has tips on how I can prepare for this career path. Are there specific requirements I should meet or training courses I could take before starting an apprenticeship? Just to give you a little context, I'm currently taking a furnishing course in school, but it's mainly focused on furniture. Thanks in advance for any advice you're able to share!

If you can land a solid apprenticeship, it can really set you up for success in your carpentry career. Just keep working hard and don't hesitate to reach out for any opportunities! Good luck!

It's great to hear you're interested in carpentry! One good step is to look into work experience opportunities; I used to have students come to my cabinetmaking business for work experience during their grades 10 to 12. Check with your school if they have any partnerships with local builders for similar opportunities! Getting your foot in the door early can really help you understand the industry better.

Yeah, I'll definitely ask my year 12 coordinator about that. Thanks for the suggestion! I appreciate the quick response!
