I recently got a fire door to install between my house and garage from Lowe's. I was told it should have a placard, but all I've seen is a stamp on the frame, which won't be visible after it's installed. Is it still a requirement to have a placard, or can I skip returning it?

All fire-rated components like the door and frame need to be labeled. These labels should remain intact for the duration of the building’s life. They can be metal, paper, or plastic, and must be easily visible. If the label on a fire door is missing or worn out, you can verify its rating through an inspection or certification service. So yeah, make sure you find that label!

I totally get it! It’s great when people can quote codes like that—it just shows you know what you’re talking about.
