Where Can I Find 2x4s for Carving That Are Easy to Work With?

I'm looking for some recommendations on where to buy 2x4s for carving. I've been using the wood from Home Depot, but I'm finding it difficult to carve. Does anyone know where I can find softer woods, preferably basswood or something similar, that's well-priced and offers delivery?

Heinecke Woods has great basswood for carving. You might want to check them out!

I got a bunch of basswood blanks from Temu, like 1x1x4 and 2x2x4. Just keep in mind that wood prices might fluctuate due to tariffs. If you're using poplar from Home Depot, it should be manageable, but pine can work too sometimes.

Thanks for the info! I'm curious though, is there something even easier to carve but still sturdy enough for making swords? The wood I'm using now took forever just to cut out the frame.

Since you're in the US, basswood is pretty common and you can find it way cheaper locally than from Temu. I recommend checking out local hardwood dealers or Heinecke for the best deals.
