I've recently come into a stash of hardwood cutoffs, about 500 pieces, from my boss's old barn where they used to run a cabinet shop. The pieces are around 30 inches long and 6 to 12 inches wide, mainly made of oak, poplar, cherry, and walnut. I'm looking for some fun woodworking project ideas to make use of these. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Wow, that sounds like an awesome find! You could definitely make some cool items like boxes, cutting boards, or even end tables. I’m just wrapping up a three-legged table myself that’s been a lot of fun. If you want to dive into box building, check out some books by Doug Stowe – he's got some great stuff!
With all those pieces, you might also want to think about crafting your own hand tools or some shop fixtures. Those smaller cutoffs are perfect for that kind of project! Plus, if you want something simple, making a wood mallet could be a fun start. I’ve dabbled in cutting boards and shelves, but the idea of hand tools sounds intriguing!
I love the idea of making a wood mallet! I’ve done some basic stuff but feel like hand tools would take it to another level.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely look up Doug Stowe.
