Help! My Garden is a Dog Poop Disaster – Need Solutions!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind here and really need your advice. I've got two large dogs and just had a baby over a year ago. My husband has been deployed a lot, leaving me to handle everything on my own. I know I've let my garden go, and I haven't picked up dog poop since my baby was born. Before that, I wasn't consistent in keeping up with it either. I'm really worried about my child playing in the garden with all this waste. What are my options? Should I just dig everything up and start over with turf or seed? Or can I simply pick up the poop and treat the soil somehow? I'm looking for the most cost-effective solution because money is tight right now. Any suggestions would be awesome!

I feel for you! It’s tough managing everything. A quick fix would be to do a thorough clean and then water the whole area. Consider sectioning off part of the garden for the dogs while keeping the rest safe for your child. Once it’s clean, you can focus on maintaining it by creating a system that works for you. A daily pick-up routine can make a world of difference!

No worries, you're definitely not alone in feeling overwhelmed! It sounds like you've had a lot on your plate. I'd suggest tackling it little by little. If you have a garden waste bin, use that! Clear one section at a time; take up the old turf, level it, add some topsoil, and reseed. It’s cheaper than turfing and gives you a chance to improve things gradually. Just remember, it's all about patience—every little bit counts!

First off, you’re doing great by reaching out for help! Start by picking up all the poop you can, then give the area a good wash down. Also, if your dogs are in a routine, see if you can get them to do their business outside before you clean up. Covering part of the garden for the dogs could help manage this, and you can gradually address the rest once it's clean. Worming your dogs regularly will also help with health concerns. Hang in there!

Thanks for the encouragement! I’m definitely going to make a plan to start cleaning up a little each day.
