I've been managing weeds in my garden by pulling them out and letting the grass take care of them. However, I'm struggling with a thick patch of weeds along the fence where my dogs run, and it's getting out of hand. I'm looking for effective methods to slow down or stop the spread of these weeds without harming the soil for future planting. Is there a way to prevent weed seeds from sprouting, or do I need to consider alternative options? I typically prefer hand-sowing annual veggies in my mixed beds, but I could also pre-sprout them for a couple of years if necessary.

Using thick mulch or stone pavers can really help block sunlight and prevent weed seeds from sprouting. Just remember, thick means REALLY thick!
A great option is to layer cardboard down and then put a thick layer of wood chips on top. This should help keep the weeds at bay, and by next year, you might even find some earthworms at play in the rich soil underneath!

Got it! I'll make sure to go heavy on the mulch!
