Is it safe to use steel wool and caulk around my radiator heater to block mouse holes?

I'm dealing with some pesky mice under my apartment's radiator heater, and I want to block the holes around it. I'm considering using steel wool along with caulk or Great Stuff to seal these gaps. However, I'm worried this might create a fire hazard. Is it a good idea, or should I use something else?

I heard there's a version of Great Stuff that contains steel wool specifically designed to deter mice. It usually comes in a black can, so look out for that! Just remember, if you're sealing things up, always ensure it's safe for hotter areas like around heaters.

Thanks! I’ll keep an eye out for that black can option.

Using steel wool isn't the best choice since mice can chew right through it. Instead, you might want to try copper wool, which is much tougher for them to gnaw on. As for fire hazards, if your heater isn't getting super hot, you should be fine, but definitely skip the steel wool since I've actually seen it used as a fire starter before. Copper should do the trick without the worry! You can find it at hardware stores or online.
