Best Ways to Cut Drywall in Tight Spaces?

Hey everyone! I just had a new valve installed for my shower and had to open up the wall for access. Instead of just patching it up, I'm looking to install a large access panel so I can easily reach the valve, faucet, and floor drain whenever needed. The catch is that there's a toilet right next to the wall, making it super tricky to get in there and cut the drywall properly. Any advice on how to tackle this situation?

If it's really cramped, consider removing the toilet for a couple of minutes. It only takes around five to do, and you'll need a new wax ring, which is super cheap. Just a thought!

I've dealt with similar tight spaces! What worked for me was using an oscillating multi-tool. It's perfect for those awkward cuts since you can get really close to the toilet tank and make clean cuts easily. Just ensure you mount the blade at the right angle for the best fit.

Totally agree! Those oscillating tools are a game changer for small spaces. Super versatile!

You’ve got a few handy options! You could go traditional with a box cutter or a drywall saw. If you're feeling adventurous, scoring the drywall with a knife and then snapping it could work too. Just take your time and be cautious with the edges!

Yeah, I've done the scoring method before, it works surprisingly well! Just make sure to wear gloves.
