I've been growing raspberries for three years now and they seem to be sending out a lot of shoots far away from the original plant. What strategies do you all use to keep them in check? Is it just a matter of digging them up and giving them away?

It really depends on the variety of raspberries you have. From what I've gathered, they can spread just like mint—quite aggressively! So the treatment methods might be similar too. Keeping an eye on them is key.
To manage raspberry spreads, you have to be pretty proactive. I recommend using a spade shovel to dig about 6 inches away from the original plant to contain the root system. This way, you can keep the main rhizome cluster happy while controlling the new growth. Just make sure to stay on top of it or they’ll take over!
When they pop up where I don’t want them, I just pull them up. They are super persistent! I even had one make its way across five feet of patio tiles and grow in the groove. You really have to stay vigilant with these plants!

Smart idea! I'm definitely going to give that a try!
