Should I Repot My Seeds or Leave Them Be?

Hey everyone! I'm just getting started with gardening and my mom and I recently planted some vegetable seeds in cells. However, I'm a bit concerned that we might have buried them too deep in the soil. We followed the instructions from the back of the seed packs, but I heard from someone that seeds should only be planted up to twice their size, not deeper. Do you think we should repot them into the cells? We only did this yesterday!

How long has it been since you planted them? Fresh seeds typically germinate within a week, sometimes a bit longer. If you planted them at a quarter depth, I'd recommend waiting a few more days to see if they start to sprout.

I'd suggest leaving the seeds alone for now. They might have already started to sprout, and disturbing them could do more harm than good. Just give them some time to see if they break through the soil.

That’s a good point! But do you think it would help if I just lightly removed some topsoil? I want them to reach the sunlight without messing with the seeds too much.

Yeah, I’m wondering the same! I don’t want to risk damaging them, but they could definitely use a little more light.

It really depends on the seed size! If you're talking about tiny seeds like poppy seeds, I usually just sprinkle them on top and lightly cover them. For bigger seeds like pumpkins or watermelons, I would plant them about half an inch deep. What did you end up planting?

We planted Carrot, Tomato, Jalapeño, and Lettuce.
