Is Using an Extension Cord Across My Garage Safe for Power?

I have only one outlet in my garage, and I need power on the other side. I'm considering running an extension cord as a semi-permanent solution connected to a 12-outlet power strip. However, I can't cut into the wall to install new wiring. Are there safer or better alternatives for this situation?

It's not really safe to consider that a permanent solution. If you run a heavy-duty extension cord (like 12 gauge), it's okay for light use, but anything high-draw like compressors might cause issues. Voltage drop is a concern here, especially over long distances. Ideally, consider more permanent solutions like running conduit instead of using an extension cord, as that would be safer in the long run.

Totally echo that! High-draw tools and skinny cords don’t mix well. If you go the extension cord route, be sure to get a beefy one and keep the load light.
