Hey everyone! I'm diving into my first DIY electronics project and could really use your expertise. I bought a second-hand lamp, but the wire wasn't working, so I decided to replace it. I found a replacement cable here: https://amzn.eu/d/9zr1tBq. My main concern is how to remove the socket that holds the lamp to slide the new cable into the lamp's base. Is it doable with the product in the link, or should I look for a different product where all the parts come separately?

You can usually take the socket apart! They’re either screwed in or clipped together. From what I see in your link, it looks like it might be clipped. Check around the sides for any slim parts that could be the clips.
You can often salvage parts from old or broken lamps, and sometimes those parts are actually better quality than what’s sold now.
True, but I couldn’t figure out which part of my lamp was broken. It seems easier to just replace everything!
TLDR: Yes, it’s definitely possible. I put together a lamp socket very similar last weekend. You have a top and bottom cover and can unscrew the top part. There's also a cone-shaped part that helps release tension on the wire so that you can slide the bottom cover down to access the terminal screws.
That’s super helpful, thanks! I’ll grab that type since I can’t find any disassembled kits with the right length!
I’d advise against using the socket from your link. They typically make parts you can assemble separately, so check Amazon for 'lamp parts' instead.
Alright, thanks a lot! Seems like it's harder to find the right parts here in Europe, but I've found some options that are sold disassembled!
So, yes, you typically can detach it since they had to put it on initially. Most of them unscrew pretty easily.
Haha yes, that’s what I figured!

Perfect, thank you!
