What’s the Best Way to Buy Spray Foam for a Crawl Space?

I'm working on insulating my crawl space with some leftover 4" thick closed-cell insulation blocks that a friend gave me, but I've noticed there are a lot of gaps—most are around 2" thick. I'm considering using spray foam, but the cost of buying a bunch of individual cans seems really high. Is there a more economical way to purchase spray foam? Do they sell larger containers or tanks that I could use instead of small cans? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you’re tackling this kind of project, I’d recommend getting one or two spray foam guns from Amazon. You can then purchase the contractor-style foam cans at home improvement stores like Home Depot or Lowe's. These larger cans don’t include an applicator, but they’re much easier to control and you can reuse the guns. They also sell spray foam gun cleaner, which is basically just acetone in a pressurized can.

Thanks for the tip!

When you’re foaming those gaps, consider jamming some off cuts into the larger gaps first to make it more efficient. But yeah, if you want to check for more specific advice, it might be worth heading over to the insulation sub!

I’ll give that a shot too, thanks!

You can definitely buy larger tanks for home use, with options for 200 sq ft or even 600 sq ft coverage. The downside is that the tips don’t last long once you stop spraying—so you have to work quickly. I’ve seen the 200 sq ft version at both Home Depot and Lowe's, but be prepared to spend around $300-400 for those. It might be worth considering if you have a lot of gaps to fill! Just remember to grab a reusable gun while you're there to make your life easier.

The metal pro gun in the same aisle is a game changer—easier to clean and handle!
