Hey everyone! My sister is about to have a baby, and I promised I'd make her a baby toy box since I love woodworking. However, being in high school means I'm on a tight budget. I'm aiming to keep my expenses under $35 for the wood. Ideally, I'd like to find a decent 4'x8' sheet of plywood, but I'm struggling to find anything that's not super pricey—most places want $60 or more. Any suggestions on where I might find affordable, yet quality wood?

What about using pallets? They can often be found for free and can make a rustic-looking toy box. Just make sure to check they’re safe for indoor use!
You should check out Lowes and Home Depot! They sometimes have free or drastically reduced cutoffs by their saw stations. You might be able to score some good wood for your project without spending a fortune.
Honestly, maybe consider making something different than a toy box. Newborns don't really need it right away—trust me, they get a ton of toys from family and friends. Instead, how about crafting a picture frame for a family photo? They’d probably cherish something with sentimental value more than a toy box they won't use for a while.
Yeah, but remember, as they grow, they’ll need a place for those toys! Just ensure it's built well; it could last for generations!
Thanks for the idea! My sister did mention she’d like a toy box eventually, but I see your point about the sentimental gifts.

Yeah, and don't forget to look for those "Free" bins outside some lumber yards. You can often find handy scraps there!
