I'm building a dining room table and struggling to get perfectly straight edges with my jobsite table saw due to insufficient support along the fence before the blade. Since I can't accommodate a full-size jointer, I'm considering a benchtop version. I've read complaints about how they can't handle longer materials, and I'll be working with 80" stock that's about 7/8" thick and 6-8" wide. I've created a modular workbench where I could add around 4' of infeed and outfeed support. Would this additional support really improve my results?

It's definitely going to be tough. The infeed on benchtop jointers is tricky because it only raises and lowers in tiny increments, which makes keeping your extended support perfectly aligned a challenge. However, the outfeed is easier since it doesn't move. My suggestion? Consider getting a track saw with a long track or even a circular saw set up on a track. It worked wonders for me when I was trying to joint long pieces!

Wow, I can't believe I missed that option! I already have a Kreg circular saw track. Just need an extension piece to make it long enough, but great idea!
