I'm on the hunt for Bluetooth hearing protection, whether headphones or muffs, that have a solid decibel NRR rating and actually sound good. I recently purchased the Direct Sound EXTW37 for around $100, which are Bluetooth studio isolation headphones boasting 37 dB of passive attenuation. I hope the sound quality exceeds that of other safety and OSHA-oriented headphones I've tried. Big shoutout to u/Positive-Respect-82 for highlighting these to me!
Additionally, I got a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 M headphones. They also provide high passive sound attenuation, but they're wired and not Bluetooth. I've used the regular DT 770s for years, and they sound fantastic. My plan is to use those mainly for shop work and keep my phone in my pocket, while using the Direct Sound headphones for the loudest tasks like using the planer and jointer, or if I need to charge my phone while working.
Currently, I have the wireless 3M WorkTunes Connect earmuffs for machine-intensive tasks and AirPod Pros for everything else in my shop. Since I work full time in my shop, both comfort and functionality are crucial for me. I'm looking to transition away from AirPods and find over-the-ear options like the WorkTunes Connect that have a decent NRR rating but also deliver good sound quality for music, since the WorkTunes are terrible for that purpose. I've tried several Isotunes products, and I'm not a fan. The sound quality was poor across the board, with a buzzing or blown speaker sound, and they limit volume to 85 dB, which isn't acceptable for my needs.
So, does this product exist? Keep in mind, I'm quite particular about sound quality, and for now, feel free to suggest any options without budget restrictions.

It sounds like you're really searching for the perfect combo! Have you tried bone conduction headphones? I’ve got the previous generation of Shokz bone conductive headphones and they perform really well. They allow for a built-in EQ that can enhance sound quality. Pairing these with some high-quality earplugs might give you the isolation you need while still letting you enjoy music.
If you're open to options that aren't officially certified for hearing protection, studio isolation headphones may also be a great choice. The Direct Sound EXTW37 could be the perfect fit for what you’re looking for since they provide good passive noise blocking. They aren't ANSI-certified, but they perform well in terms of sound quality. Otherwise, check out the Vic Firth Bluetooth Isolation Headphones as a more affordable option. Just make sure to check user reviews to assess how they hold up for music!
I really think the Direct Sound model will meet your needs. Glad I could help!
I hear you on the sound quality front, and I’ve tried a lot of options too. Even though the Isotunes are popular, they just don’t cut it for sound quality in my experience either. I’ve settled on over-ear options for music. Have you considered options like the Honeywell Sync or even using something like the Howard Leight Impact Sport with a Bluetooth adapter? They are decent and comfortable, plus you might appreciate their sound quality.
Another option could be looking into classic isolating IEMs like Etymotic or Shure SE models for on-the-job sound. Even though they aren't over-ear, they can isolate sound very well. Just ensure they'll work for you in your environment!
I feel you on the sound quality complaints! I'm really hoping to find an option that actually delivers.
It's tricky to find a good balance of protection and quality, so keep exploring different avenues!
Renowned options are sometimes hard to find, but I think you can make a good setup work. I loved my Jabra headphones under my muffs, definitely many people go that route. Alternatively, the ProHear from Amazon could be a decent budget choice; they have good sound quality and comfort for extended wear—it’s all about getting the right fit! Just be mindful of how they might protrude—can get cramped in tight spaces!
Yep, fit is crucial! If they stick out too much, it can make work tricky!
Definitely keep an eye on the fit. Comfort goes a long way!

The Direct Sound EXTW37 seems like what you need! I'm giving it a look now since it sounds promising.
