Why Do People Sell Milwaukee Tools For More Than Retail?

Asked By ToolNinja123 On

I've noticed that folks on marketplace are often listing Milwaukee tools for prices above retail. Is this due to sentimental value, or is there something else at play? Also, how are they selling new boxed items? Is there a trend of local dealers in Milwaukee that contributes to this?

I'm deep into the Milwaukee tool scene and often sell at or above retail. There’s a market for tools not found in Home Depot. Some people make decent profits using discounts and methods like breaking kits apart and reselling pieces separately. It's impressive, really.

But seriously, why would anyone pay a premium for your tools when they could get the same ones cheaper on Amazon or HD?

A lot of people grab tools at discounts and then try to sell them for around 90% of the retail price. But sometimes stores have sales that push prices higher, making these listings seem more expensive than they actually should be.

It can get pretty frustrating. Some sellers list worn-out tools for more than a new set that comes with a warranty just because they say 'you save the tax.'

And sometimes you can even smell the motor, like how is that worth more?

It's pretty similar to how car sales work. Sellers often add a big markup on the MSRP, and you'll still find someone willing to buy. The pricing can seem ridiculous, but there's always a buyer out there.

Yeah, it's a shame that some buyers aren't too price sensitive.

When selling on FB marketplace, I've learned that your first offer is usually a lowball, around 15% of your asking price. Some people list their items way higher just to deter those low offers. It's all part of the game.

I haven't really found that to be the case for me. Some people just seem overly aggressive with their offers.

Same here! Usually I just want one tool, but sometimes you have to buy a combo deal and sell off the extras. You have to list high just to deal with all the lowballers out there.
