Curious About Contract Price Stability with Tariffs?

Asked By DeckLover47 On

I recently put down a deposit for some deck and siding work, and with the weather finally clearing up, construction is about to start. My main concern is whether the quoted price I received could be affected by rising tariffs. I've already signed the contract and made the down payment—should I be worried?

Check your contract for a materials escalation clause. If there is none, your quoted price should hold. But if prices of materials do jump, your contractor might be in a tight spot depending on market changes. Definitely worth a chat with them!

Honestly, with your down payment and signed contract, I wouldn't feel pressured to pay more if the contractor claims costs have gone up. They should be using that payment to buy materials at the locked-in price. If they ask for more, definitely push back on that!

True, but with how quickly prices can shift, getting materials quickly is key. If your contractor hesitates, it might lead to issues later.
