I'm looking to install an electric AC hoist to store my kayaks under a covered deck. The plan is to use a unistrut tube brace for mounting the hoist. I want to set up pulleys with wire cables attached to the corners of the kayak rack. However, I'm curious if simply turning the hoist on its side and securing the unistrut to a vertical surface will do the trick. Are there any better methods out there?

From your description, it sounds like you're trying to lift the whole kayak rack? Maybe you could hinge one side of the rack to the wall so you can just lift the front edge with the hoist. That way, it tilts when down, making it easier to access the kayaks. Just a thought!
Try looking up "block and tackle" systems online. They could offer you some neat ideas and solutions for your kayak lift, too!
Wow, an AC hoist for just kayaks seems like overkill! For your situation, a simple rope and a pully system should be more than enough unless you're really lifting a ton. What do you think?
It’d be super helpful if you could share a picture or diagram of what you've got in mind. I’m having trouble picturing your setup with the hoist and pulley system.
I'll try to put something together soon! Hope my description gives you a bit of an idea until then.

I appreciate the feedback! Just to clarify, I'm hoisting three heavy Hobie kayaks that weigh about 300 pounds combined, plus the two long pipes for the rack. So it’s more than just a lightweight lift!
