Hey everyone! So, my old ceiling fans have finally given up after 25 years, and I've picked up some sleek new fans. I didn't purchase two new two-foot downrods because I hate wasting things. Before I call an electrician for the installation, I'm curious if I can reuse my old downrods. I plan to use new wiring, but can the electrician just detach the current downrods and put them back on if they're compatible? Is it even a good idea to recycle them? Thanks a lot!

As an electrician, I’d actually recommend grabbing new downrods just to be safe. However, tell your electrician to check the old ones first. If they fit, then great! You can just return the new ones if they're unopened. It might mean a trip to the store for you, but it beats having the electrician come back later.
There's generally no issue with reusing a downrod, as long as everything fits well. Just make sure the connection points work together and the diameter is correct.
It really depends on the fans you have. A lot of downrods are pretty universal, but some brands can be a bit picky with compatibility. Just double-check to see if your old rods match the new fans you're getting.
Got it, I’ll compare them before installation.
Thanks for the heads up! My partner has back issues, so I want to avoid any extra hassle.

Thanks for the advice! Just ordered the specific downrods.
