Can I Grow Two Cherry Tomato Plants in a 20-Gallon Container?

Hey there! I'm new to gardening and seeking some advice. I'm growing Red Cherry tomato seeds and have a 23-gallon planter ready for the sprouts. I've read that indeterminate tomatoes ideally need a minimum of 5 gallons each and tend to do best when planted alone. I'm wondering if two plants would be okay in a 20-gallon container. If not, could I plant other veggies alongside them, like scallions? Thanks for any tips!

You should be good to go with 20 gallons for two plants, especially if you’re adding fertilizer. Mixing in some other plants is also a great idea! I usually throw in basil, nasturtiums, radishes, or onions around my tomatoes without any issues.

Thanks for the tip! I'm using a seed starting mix along with some organic soil and a bit of fertilizer for the first few weeks. I'm planning to start my scallions about a week before I transfer the tomatoes. By the way, do you think basil grows better with other plants?
